MORE ABOUT JESS

Why I started? I had always ran since high school just for sanity basically - and always crosstrained with swimming and riding. I had never really competed, just ran a lot. I got struck with glandular fever in my most academically rigorous year of medical school and came out 0f 2017 quite fatigued and with little motivation to exercise. I decided that I actually needed an event to motivate myself so did Geelong 70.3 and Hobart Marathon at the start of 2018 to kickstart the new year. I still don't do too many events but just try and tick along. I try not to get too obsessed, I just do the workout - and a lot of time as Grant would probably say I forget to upload it to strava/training peaks. I try to just do the workout/race and then just move on with the rest of the day. I have tried not to let it change myself too much as I just want to keep a healthy life balance whilst doing a lot of shift work and study. It will probably go a lot to the backburner during the pandemic.

Why you do it? I do it because I enjoy it - most of the time. Because there are three components that help to keep me from getting injured/stale with one activity. Because I like to see what I am capable of - where and how I can push myself. What I don't like about triathlon is how costly it is!!

Future plans: Qualified and accepted the Kona Spot so will hopefully get to Hawaii if it happens given the current COVID-19 Pandemic and not having work approved leave yet ......

Also, I hope to finally get a sub: 20min Parkrun/5km. I would also like to bring my marathon time down. I don't really do swim or ride events so maybe I should start doing some solo events to challenge myself.

My future plans are also to retire from longer distance events soon to focus on my career development - so we will reassess after this year.

JESS ON BECKWORTH RACING

They are very friendly and welcoming as a remote/satellite athlete. Have a nice supportive culture. My Coach Grant is very accommodating to my schedule and gives me a lot of flexibility. The virtual support from the Club - none of who knew me really during Busso was great.

I also like that Beckworth guided me to my Ironman finish uninjured and able to bounce back relatively quickly - so that was good.
