In early 2016 Nathan signed up to race IRONMAN 70.3 Geelong.
After that Geelong race Nathan was hooked, and with his new coach Adam Beckworth set goals to complete his first full distance IRONMAN at Port Macquarie. From the outset Adam saw potential in Nathan. He saw attributes such as grit, determination and motivation, however Nathan needed help building his fitness, strength, knowledge and belief.
What happened over the next 4 years has been an incredible journey for both Nathan and Adam. Nathan went onto to complete that first IRONMAN in Port Macquarie and actually finished 5th in his age group and breaking 10 hours with a first IRONMAN time of 9:43:39, subsequently qualifying him for the IRONMAN World Championships in Kona, Hawaii.
Nathan took that qualifying spot to Kona and went on to compete at the World Championships, which was a great thrill and personal achievement.
Since then Nathan has qualified for Kona at every IRONMAN race his has competed in. A total of 4 times, taking the "Kona Spot" 3 times. Along the way Nathan has had age group wins, set course records, consistently improves his PB times across all distances and become an elite age group athlete.
